Write your lawmakers today and tell them you OPPOSE AB 1487 -- a bill that would provide state funding to give free legal representation to tenants who face an eviction and who claim they can’t pay the rent. While CAA supports efforts to ensure all rental housing providers and tenants know their rights, clogging the court system with delays is not the solution.
The State of California should focus on ensuring that rental assistance payments are processed quickly and that more resources are available to tenants who are unable to pay the rent because of short-term financial challenges. The true solution to preventing evictions for non-payment of rent is to provide meaningful financial relief -- not more delays and ultimately more costs to the courts and housing providers.
